INDONESIA BUILDS 1 GW AI FACTORY, LARGEST IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
Indonesia is preparing to build a 1 GW AI Factory, projected to be the largest artificial intelligence computing infrastructure in Southeast Asia. The project, launched through Zankore, a collaboration between Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Ooredoo Group, Nokia, and NVIDIA, is expected to begin construction in Batang, Central Java, in the first half of 2027. The facility will start with a capacity of around 200 MW and gradually expand to 1 GW within three years. Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid said the investment reflects growing global confidence in Indonesia’s digital economy and strengthens the country’s position as a destination for high-value technology investments. Unlike conventional data centers, the AI Factory will integrate AI-ready computing infrastructure, high-performance Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), networking, data storage, GPU-as-a-Service, and AI workload management systems to support large-scale AI development. The project will also host Sahabat-AI, Indonesia’s open-source large language model supporting multiple local languages, and provide affordable AI computing access for businesses, government agencies, developers, and MSMEs. In addition, Indonesia is developing its first GPU manufacturing facility in Cikarang, expected to begin operations in December, to support the national AI ecosystem. The government believes the combination of digital infrastructure, energy resources, a large domestic market, and supportive policies will help position Indonesia as a leading AI hub in Southeast Asia.Source: https://inet.detik.com/law-and-policy/d-8609560/indonesia-bangun-ai-factory-1-gw-terbesar-di-asia-tenggara (ICE GIACARTA)
