INDONESIA CONTINUES TO STOP BAUXITE EXPORT TARGETING INVESTMENT
Indonesia saw a significant surge in bauxite downstreaming investment in Q2 2026, with realized investment reaching Rp40.1 trillion (US$2.26 billion), a 193% increase from Rp13.7 trillion in the previous quarter. This made bauxite the largest recipient of downstreaming investment, overtaking nickel (Rp29.4 trillion), as more domestic and foreign investors developed bauxite processing projects. Other major downstream sectors included copper, iron and steel, and silica sand. The growth was driven by the government's continued ban on exports of unprocessed minerals, including bauxite and copper, aimed at boosting domestic processing, creating jobs, and increasing the value of Indonesia’s natural resources. Total downstreaming investment reached Rp152.7 trillion in Q2 2026, accounting for nearly 30% of national investment realization, while new refining and processing facilities signaled Indonesia’s efforts to diversify its downstream industry beyond its traditional reliance on nickel.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/7113/business-and-investment/indonesia-continues-to-stop-bauxite-export-targeting-investment (ICE GIACARTA)
