UKRAINE: ITALIAN WINE IMPORTS CONTINUE TO GROW AS ITALY STRENGTHENS MARKET LEADERSHIP IN THE FIRST SEVEN MONTHS OF 2026

Italy further reinforced its dominant position in the Ukrainian wine market during the first seven months of 2026, with exports to Ukraine increasing by 7.68% year-on-year to €44.81 million. Italy accounted for 44.73% of Ukraine’s total wine imports, by far the largest share among all supplying countries. The strong performance of Italian wine comes despite a contraction in Ukraine’s overall wine imports. Between January and July 2026, Ukraine imported €100.19 million worth of wine, representing a decline of 1.27% compared to the same period in 2025. France remained the second-largest supplier, with exports increasing by 1.6% to €17.05 million, while holding a 17.02% market share. Spain followed with €12.40 million in exports (-0.96%; 12.38% market share), maintaining its third position. Georgia continued to hold a solid presence in the market, supplying €6.65 million worth of wine (-4.49%; 6.64% share). Among the fastest-growing suppliers, New Zealand recorded particularly strong growth, increasing shipments by 31.81% to €4.17 million, raising its market share to 4.16%. By contrast, several traditional suppliers experienced declines. Imports from Germany fell by 20.94% to €3.51 million (3.51% market share), while Portugal decreased by 16.95% to €3.73 million (3.72%). Other exporters, including the United States, South Africa, Argentina, and Moldova, also recorded significant reductions in export value during the period. Overall, the Ukrainian wine market in the first seven months of 2026 continued to demonstrate resilient demand for imported wines, particularly premium European products. Italy is further consolidating its leadership position and strengthening its presence among Ukrainian consumers. (ICE KIEV)
