INDONESIA EYES USD 170 BILLION ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE MARKET POTENTIAL

Indonesia has significant growth potential for electric motorcycles, driven by its massive motorcycle market of around 140 million vehicles and annual sales of 6-7 million new motorcycles. Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani estimated the market opportunity at approximately USD 170 billion, noting that electric motorcycle adoption remains very low at only 60,000-70,000 units per year, or about 1% of total motorcycle sales. This low penetration rate suggests substantial room for future expansion as Indonesia accelerates its transition to electric mobility. The government is also working to strengthen the domestic electric motorcycle industry. Around 10 Indonesian companies have already met the required Domestic Component Level (TKDN) standards, while collaborations involving PT Len Industri aim to ensure locally produced electric motorcycles meet international standards. During the launch of the National Electric Motorcycle (MOLINAS) ecosystem, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the strategic importance of electric vehicles in reducing Indonesia's dependence on imported petroleum and praised private-sector investment as part of the broader vision of building national economic strength through “Indonesia Incorporated.”Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2649705/indonesia-eyes-usd-170-billion-electric-motorcycle-market-potential (ICE GIACARTA)
