INDONESIA'S PRESIDENT TARGETS 30 GW OF SOLAR POWER THIS YEAR, 100 GW IN 4 YEARS
The President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has set an ambitious target to develop 30 GW of solar power capacity in 2026 and 100 GW within the next four years, as part of Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen energy security and accelerate the transition to clean energy. The goal represents a massive expansion from the country’s current installed solar capacity of approximately 1.5 GW, requiring an increase of more than 60 times. Prabowo also instructed state utility PLN to gradually phase out around 13 GW of diesel-fired power plants, while promoting wider adoption of electric vehicles to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and lower fuel import costs. The government sees the solar program as a key component of Indonesia’s long-term energy and economic strategy. According to the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), achieving the 100 GW solar target could require investments of USD 51-78 billion over five years and could generate benefits such as stronger energy security, green job creation, and lower emissions. The initiative is expected to be supported by large-scale battery storage systems, with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources planning to begin implementation through major renewable energy projects, including an upcoming groundbreaking program in Bali.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/prabowo-targets-30-gw-of-solar-power-this-year-100-gw-in-four-years (ICE GIACARTA)
