Halyk Bank net profit falls 15.3% to 447.6 bln tenge in H1 2026Halyk Bank, Kazakhstan's largest bank by assets, reported a 15.3% drop in IFRS net income to 447.568 billion tenge in January-June 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to the bank's financial statements.“Net income attributable to common shareholders for 1H 2026 is down 15.3% year-on-year due to the impact of increased minimum reserve requirements, tighter regulation in retail lending and increase in average interest rate on amounts due to customers amid flat average interest rate on loans,” the bank said in a press release.In the reporting period, interest income rose 12.2% year-on-year to 1.446 trillion tenge.Assets grew 5.4% since the start of the year to over 22 trillion tenge, while liabilities rose 5.7% to 18.4 trillion tenge.The gross loan portfolio rose 1.8% since the start of the year to nearly 14 trillion tenge, while the net loan portfolio grew 2% to 13.3 trillion tenge.Individuals’ deposits expanded 3.8% since the start of the year to 8.3 trillion tenge, while legal entities’ deposits increased 3.6% to 6.6 trillion tenge.Total equity grew 4.1% since the start of the year to 3.6 trillion tenge.Halyk Bank is controlled by Dinara Kulibayeva, a daughter of Kazakhstan’s first president Nursultan Nazarbayev, and her spouse Timur Kulibayev through Almex Group JSC (50.25%). The Bank of New York is a nominee shareholder of Halyk bank with a 28.42% stake. The shares of Halyk Bank are traded on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange and GDRs on The London Stock Exchange and the Astana International Exchange (AIX). (ICE ALMATY)
