According to the Hellenic Wind Energy Association, installed wind capacity reached 6,017 megawatts (MW) during the first six months of 2026, after 65 new wind turbines with a combined capacity of 320.6 MW were connected to the grid, representing investments of approximately 400 million euros. This marked a 5.6% increase compared with the end of 2025. The figures also mean that almost as many wind farms were connected to the grid in the first half of 2026 as during the whole of 2025. At the end of the first half of 2026, around 700 MW of new wind farms were under construction, the vast majority of which are expected to be connected to the grid within the next 18 months. As a result, total installed wind capacity is expected to comfortably exceed 6.5 GW over the next year and a half. The association noted, however, that the pace of new construction slowed compared with the previous six-month period, confirming that the project development and licensing framework requires significant improvements. By region, Central Greece remained the country's leading wind power hub with 2,603 MW, accounting for 43.3% of total installed capacity. It was followed by the Peloponnese with 819 MW (13.6%) and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace with 535 MW (8.9%).
