EUROPEAN COMMISSION APPROVES 41-MLN-EUROS GREEK PLAN TO HELP FARMERS facing high fertiliser prices

The European Commission approved a Greek state plan of 41 million euros to support agricultural companies in the primary production sector that have been hurt by increased fertiliser prices due to the Middle East crisis. According to the Commission, the aid will take the form of direct grants and will cover 15% of the total cost for fertilisers purchased from 15 March 2026 until 31 August 2026. The aid is capped at 50,000 euros per beneficiary. The European Commission approved the scheme under the Middle East Crisis Temporary State Aid Framework (METSAF) adopted by the Commision on 29 April 2026. METSAF is in effect until 31 December 2026 and is specifically focused on the sectors of agriculture, fishery, transport, and energy-intensive industries. (ICE ATENE)
