The Ministry of Environment and Energy has announced a new 65 million euros funding programme for water supply projects aimed at addressing growing drought pressures across the country. The funding is designed to support additional infrastructure projects needed to strengthen water networks and improve supply resilience. The announcement follows the successful completion of previous funding rounds, which supported 103 water projects across 63 municipalities nationwide, with a total value of 142 million euros over the past 12 months. Municipalities and local water companies facing water scarcity challenges have been invited to submit proposals. Applications must include a detailed description of the proposed project and clear justification of the required budget. The Ministry also confirmed that, by September, two further funding calls will be launched in cooperation with the Ministry of National Economy and Finance. These will target water infrastructure projects in island communities with more than 3,500 residents and mountainous regions, with budgets of 30 million euros and 20 million euros, respectively. The additional programmes will bring the total value of new water infrastructure funding announced under the initiative to 115 million euros. (ICE ATENE)
