GOVT APPROVES 31 PROPOSALS WORTH RS 7,877 CRORE UNDER ELECTRONICS COMPONENT SCHEME

The government on Monday approved 31 new proposals under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), involving investments of Rs 7,877 crore, as India steps up efforts to build a stronger domestic electronics supply chain and reduce its reliance on imported components. With the latest approvals, the total number of projects cleared under the scheme has risen to 106 across five tranches, with cumulative investments crossing Rs 69,000 crore.Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said private investment under the scheme has already surpassed the government's initial target."When we made the Electronic Components Scheme, the manufacturing scheme, we kept a target of Rs 59,000 crore. I am so glad the scheme has already achieved Rs 69,000 crore investment. Private investment is happening now, and it is coming in very crucial sectors," Vaishnaw said. The latest approvals cover a range of segments, including capital goods, camera and display modules, connectors, anode materials, enclosures, rare earth permanent magnets, speakers and microphones, antennas, metallised films for capacitors and coils.Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) had cleared nearly 31 applications in the latest round, with the projects spread across 10 states.Among the companies receiving approvals are Jyoti CNC Automation, of Rs 1,021 crore; Micromax Precision Moulding at Rs 565 crore; VVDN Technologies at Rs 100 crore; Resolute Group's SkyQuad Electronics and Appliances at Rs 740 crore; Mitsubishi Electric India at Rs 99 crore; Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials with an additional investment of Rs 1,033 crore; Gruner India at Rs 79 crore; and Centum Electronics at Rs 54 crore.Other approved applicants include GX Group, Bhagwati Products, Ennovi Mobility Solutions, Allied Engineering Works, Globe Capacitors, Syrma SGS Technology, Rosenberger Interconnect, Sensata Technologies and Britannia RFID Technologies, among others.Vaishnaw said the latest projects are expected to generate total production worth Rs 82,243 crore and create nearly 10,000 jobs. The latest investments include capacity expansion in areas that are becoming increasingly important to India's electronics manufacturing ambitions.Wipro Global is scaling up investments in copper clad laminate, a component facing supply constraints and price increases amid rising demand from artificial intelligence servers.Quantum Magnetics has received approval to manufacture rare earth permanent magnets, a segment currently dominated by China and considered critical for high-tech electronics, including advanced audio technologies.Companies including Mitsubishi Electric, Ind Sphinx, Accurate Gauging and Instruments, VVDN Technologies and Jyoti CNC Automation have received approvals for capital goods manufacturing. The segment is considered important for reducing import dependence and enabling domestic electronics manufacturers to expand production.Launched in April 2025, the ECMS provides incentives to companies setting up domestic electronics component manufacturing facilities. The scheme is part of the government's broader push to increase domestic value addition, strengthen local supply chains and position India as a global electronics manufacturing hub.Vaishnaw said the electronics industry needs to maintain a strong focus on four areas: design capabilities, indigenous supply chains, Six Sigma quality and workforce development. He said building domestic design capabilities was essential as rapid changes in technology, markets and customer requirements require companies to respond quickly and develop products at scale.......Read more at:https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/cons-products/electronics/govt-approves-31-proposals-worth-rs-7877-crore-under-electronics-component-scheme/articleshow/133294621.cms (ICE MUMBAI)
