INDONESIA EYES STRONG GROWTH IN ESSENTIAL OIL EXPORTS
Indonesia’s essential oil exports showed strong growth in 2025, reaching USD 348.7 million, up 34.4% from USD 259.5 million in 2024. The government expects this momentum to continue into 2026, supported by efforts to expand downstream processing and increase domestic value added. Indonesia's Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlighted that the export growth demonstrates the competitiveness of Indonesian essential oils, helping the country rank as the world’s fifth-largest exporter in the sector, behind India, the United States, France, and Brazil. A key focus is patchouli oil, whose exports rose 22.7% to USD 173.4 million in 2025 and are already sold in major markets across Asia, Europe, and the United States. The government aims to boost value creation by processing patchouli oil into higher-value products for the perfume, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, pesticide, and aromatherapy industries. Officials emphasized that achieving this requires stronger cooperation across the supply chain, including improving farmer and distiller capabilities, strengthening cooperatives, ensuring raw material quality, and expanding access to financing and markets. This downstream strategy is expected to increase product diversification, attract investment, and enhance the global competitiveness of Indonesia’s essential oil industry.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2663679/indonesia-eyes-strong-growth-in-essential-oil-exports (ICE GIACARTA)
