KazMunayGas petrochemical unit boosts polypropylene output 13%, EU exports surge 67%Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. (KPI), a KazMunayGas subsidiary, increased polypropylene production by 13.4% in the first seven months of 2026 to 248,400 tonnes, the company said.The plant produced 219,000 tonnes in the same period of 2025 and 150,000 tonnes in the first seven months of 2024, according to the press service.Domestic deliveries rose nearly 18% year-on-year to 26,000 tonnes.Exports to the European Union surged 67% in the first half to 91,400 tonnes of premium-grade polypropylene, the company said. The plant also ships to Turkey, Russia and China.KPI offers 17 polypropylene grades used in construction, textiles, packaging and consumer goods.KazMunayGas Chairman Askhat Khasenov, who visited the KPI complex Thursday, ordered the plant to ensure stable operations, prepare for longer turnaround intervals, expand the product portfolio with higher-margin grades and steadily boost exports.The KPI polypropylene plant, with annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes, was launched in November 2022. It uses propane from the Tengiz field as feedstock. Construction cost $2.63 billion, including a $1.865 billion EPC contract. China National Chemical Engineering Co. was the general contractor, with Lummus Technology as the license holder. (ICE ALMATY)
