Kazatomprom first-half net profit falls 9% on currency losses, higher costsKazatomprom's net profit fell 9% year-on-year in the first half of 2026 to 240.4 billion tenge, weighed down by currency losses and higher financial expenses, the company said in its consolidated IFRS financial statements.Consolidated revenue rose 9% to 717.8 billion tenge, while operating profit held nearly flat at 252.6 billion tenge, compared with 253.7 billion tenge a year earlier.Adjusted EBITDA increased 2% to 371.3 billion tenge, while proportionate EBITDA fell 12% to 264.8 billion tenge. Operating cash flow declined 55% to 239.6 billion tenge.The company posted a foreign exchange loss of 19.4 billion tenge in the first half, up from 12.7 billion tenge a year earlier, as the tenge strengthened against the U.S. dollar. Financial income fell 21% to 24.3 billion tenge, while financial expenses more than doubled to 14.5 billion tenge from 9 billion tenge.Cost of goods sold rose 14% to 427.5 billion tenge, driven by higher uranium production costs and increased sales volumes from joint operations and consolidated subsidiaries.Selling expenses climbed 23% to 14.8 billion tenge due to changes in uranium delivery destinations and higher transport tariffs. General and administrative expenses rose 10% to 22.9 billion tenge.Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan's state-controlled uranium producer, also processes rare metals and produces beryllium and tantalum products, with all output exported. The state holds a 75% stake through Samruk-Kazyna (62.99%) and the Finance Ministry (12.01%), with a 25% free float. (ICE ALMATY)
