BANGLADESH'S FIRST ELECTRIC RAIL PROJECT TO BE LAUNCHED ON N'GANJ-DHAKA-JOYDEBPU
The government is set to launch its first railway electrification project on the Narayanganj-Dhaka-Joydebpur corridor, aiming to enhance daily passenger capacity from 232,000 to over 845,000 and replace diesel trains with electric ones. Funded jointly by the European Union, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the Global Gateway initiative, the project aims to modernize one of the country's busiest rail corridors and provide cleaner, more efficient transport. It is expected to increase daily train services from 65 to 235, providing more efficient transport while reducing carbon emissions and pollution in the Dhaka area. Stakeholders from various sectors participated in the consultation process for this initiative. (ICE NEW DELHI)
