KAZAKHSTAN-CASPIAN-EMERGENCY-VESSEL

Kazakhstan's Caspian rescue fleet gets new vesselKazakhstan's Emergency Situations Ministry has taken delivery of a new search-and-rescue vessel for operations in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, the ministry said Tuesday."A ministry delegation, together with state maritime company Teniz Zhasagy, completed acceptance of the DAMEN Fast Crew Supplier 2710, built by DAMEN Workboats at its facility in Kuressaare, Estonia," according to a statement. The vessel is designed for search-and-rescue operations, oil spill response, emergency rapid reaction and navigational safety in Kazakhstan's Caspian waters, the ministry said. The ministry noted that bolstering the rescue fleet has taken on added urgency as the Caspian Sea's declining water level and shrinking of certain shallower areas increase navigational hazards. The changing conditions raise the risk of vessels running aground and other incidents that could threaten lives and cause oil pollution. The new vessel is expected to enable rescue crews to reach incident sites faster, assist people in distress and respond more effectively to emergencies.
