Kazakhstan becomes largest market for Russian kefir and yogurt exportsKazakhstan has become the largest foreign market for Russian kefir, yogurt and buttermilk, importing more than $22 million worth over the first seven months of 2026.Russian exports of kefir, yogurt and buttermilk rose 10% in January-July compared with the same period last year, reaching nearly $72 million, experts from the federal center AgroExport told Interfax.Russia shipped about 41,000 tonnes of dairy products abroad. Kazakhstan accounted for more than $22 million, roughly one-third of the total, followed by Belarus with about $9 million, Tajikistan with more than $7 million, Uzbekistan with about $7 million and Azerbaijan with about $6 million.Kazakhstan thus remains the key destination for Russian fermented dairy exports, with sales far exceeding those to other major markets.Russian producers are also expanding their export geography, with shipments to Egypt growing significantly. In 2025, about 30 tonnes of kefir, yogurt and buttermilk worth nearly $40,000 were exported to Egypt. In the first seven months of 2026 alone, that figure reached about 160 tonnes worth nearly $400,000.Since the start of 2026, Russia has exported kefir, yogurt and buttermilk to more than 60 countries.
