KAZAKHSTAN-KTZ-GRAIN-SHIPPING

KTZ grain shipments jump 35% in August to 1.1 mln tonnesKazakhstan's national railway company, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), shipped 1.1 million tonnes of grain in August, a 35% increase year-on-year, the company said. The volume filled more than 16,300 railcars. Exports reached 895,000 tonnes, up 46%, while domestic deliveries totaled 262,000 tonnes.Growth was led by traditional Central Asian markets, where volumes rose 45%. Shipments to China doubled, and deliveries to Afghanistan more than tripled.KTZ said it entered the harvest season with sufficient rolling stock, with roughly 15,200 grain hoppers and 17,100 boxcars available across the network. Provided shippers submit applications steadily and unloading stays on schedule, the existing fleet can handle the new crop, the company added. An operational headquarters has been set up to coordinate this season's grain shipments.KTZ is state-controlled and manages railway, seaport and airport infrastructure, as well as transport and logistics centers. The company plans to hold an IPO later this year to reduce its debt. (ICE ALMATY)
