Residents of the city and surrounding districts had lacked regular air service for more than 30 years, prosecutors noted.On June 1, Balkhash airport was put into operation, serving thousands of residents and tourists annually."The Main Transport Prosecutor's Office continues to monitor the transport sector projects and the targeted use of state funds," the statement said.The prosecutor's office noted that more than 1 trillion tenge (458.45 tenge/$1) had been returned to state ownership under a presidential directive. The funds are being channeled into schools, hospitals, sports facilities and other socially significant projects.In February 2022, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed officials to draw up proposals for recovering illegally transferred assets from abroad and set up an interagency commission that June to combat the illegal concentration of economic resources.In July 2023, Kazakhstan adopted a law providing for both voluntary and compulsory return of illegally acquired assets.
