Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry has identified eight priority programs for 2027 to strengthen the manufacturing sector, improve productivity and competitiveness, and support continued industrial growth. The initiatives Indonesia plans to develop 40,000 mini-recirculating aquaculture systems (mini-RAS) in cooperation with Australia to boost fish-farming productivity and improve food security across hundreds of villages. Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said Indonesia was encouraged to adopt the technology after observing its successful implementation in Tasmania. The RAS system continuously filters and reuses water, helping fish farms operate more efficiently while maintaining production levels. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries plans to initially use the mini-RAS technology for tilapia and catfish farming, before expanding it to species such as pangasius, barramundi, grouper, and jade perch. Trenggono also emphasized that Indonesia seeks broader fisheries cooperation with Australia, including technology transfer, community empowerment, and capacity building.
