INDONESIA'S TRADE MINISTER URGES PET FOOD INDUSTRY TO EXPAND LOCAL, EXPORT SALES
Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso has called on local pet food manufacturers to improve product quality, competitiveness, and value-added offerings to capture more of Indonesia’s large domestic market and expand exports. He emphasized that stronger domestic production and higher-quality products are essential for competing with imported goods and taking advantage of growing international opportunities. The minister also noted that Indonesia’s expanding network of trade agreements, including the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA), is expected to provide wider access to global markets for Indonesian pet food products. The sector has shown impressive growth, with pet food exports increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 31.98% between 2021 and 2025 and reaching US$8.66 million in 2025. India was the largest export destination, accounting for 53.6% of exports, followed by Malaysia, Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong. Despite this progress, Indonesia remains a relatively small player in the global pet food industry, ranking 59th worldwide with just a 0.03% market share. In contrast, leading exporters such as Germany, Thailand, Poland, the United States, and France dominate the global market.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/430143/trade-minister-urges-pet-food-industry-to-expand-local-export-sales (ICE GIACARTA)
