DIY REGIONAL GOVERNMENT ENCOURAGES SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENT IN COFFEE INDUSTRY

The Regional Government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), through its Investment and Integrated One-Stop Services Office (DPMPTSP), is urging the local coffee industry to adopt sustainable investment practices aligned with the Javanese philosophy Hamemayu Hayuning Bawono. Speaking at the Jogja Coffee Week, Head of DPMPTSP DIY Ghofar Ismail highlighted coffee as a strategic commodity that fosters economic growth while respecting the balance between humans, God, and the environment. Unlike extractive industries, coffee farming naturally promotes reforestation, soil conservation, and sustainable land management across the region. The initiative highlights the unique agricultural advantages of the region, where volcanic activity from Mount Merapi enriches the surrounding soil with minerals ideal for growing high-quality Arabica and Robusta beans. By promoting sustainable practices, the government aims to empower local farmers, protect natural ecosystems, and deliver economic welfare directly to grassroot communities. Ismail called on investors to partner with local stakeholders in building profitable ventures grounded in environmental stewardship, community empowerment, and cultural heritage preservation.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/4312000/pemda-diy-dorong-industri-kopi-kedepankan-investasi-berkelanjutan (ICE GIACARTA)
