AEGEAN AIRLINES DISCUSSES DIRECT SYRIA-GREECE FLIGHTS

A delegation from Greek carrier Aegean Airlines visited Damascus International Airport on Wednesday to review its operational, technical and service conditions and discuss requirements for launching direct, regular flights between Syria and Greece.  The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said on its Telegram channel that the delegation reviewed the airport’s operational and technical readiness, operations, passenger services, service standards and passenger experience.  The Authority said discussions focused on the operational and technical requirements for launching the flights, a move that would strengthen air connectivity and expand cooperation in air transport between the two countries.  The Greek delegation included Ground Services Operations Director Panos Nikolaidis and Aviation Security Director Charlaos Markopoulos, along with several company officials. It was accompanied by Damascus International Airport Director Anis Fallouh and officials from the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport.  Omar Hosari, Chairman of the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, said on X that the visit was part of the Authority’s efforts to expand Syria’s air connectivity network and attract more international carriers.  Hosari said such technical and operational procedures typically precede an air carrier’s entry into a market, adding that the Aegean Airlines team reviewed current operations, services and the passenger experience and discussed requirements for launching flights between Syria and Greece. He said the Authority is taking practical and institutional steps to reconnect Syrian airports with more international destinations and facilitate the return of international airlines to the Syrian market, strengthening air transport and supporting Syria’s regional and international connectivity.  Last week, a delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority conducted field visits to Damascus and Aleppo international airports to review procedures and measures in place ahead of the planned resumption of direct flights between Syria and Egypt.  A delegation from German airlines Eurowings and Lufthansa also visited Damascus International Airport last Wednesday to review its operational and technical conditions and discuss requirements for launching direct, regular flights between Syria and Germany (ICE BEIRUT)
