Sri Lanka – Benelux Business Council holds 31st AGMThe Sri Lanka–Benelux Business Council (SLBBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently held its 31st Annual General Meeting.Dutch Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Wiebe de Boer highlighted the importance of the Benelux Union in European integration and its role in connecting Sri Lankan exporters to the Port of Rotterdam. He confirmed that Sri Lanka’s GSP+ access to the EU remains in place until 2029 and expressed hope that the country could eventually move from GSP+ to a full Free Trade Agreement with the EU.SLBBC President Farhath Amith reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening Sri Lanka–Benelux trade and investment ties and called for continued support to extend GSP+ benefits. He identified renewable energy, floriculture, agriculture and agro-processing, eco-tourism, coconut products and healthcare as key areas for cooperation.Amith also stressed the potential for Sri Lanka to become South Asia’s hub for tropical ornamental plants and cut foliage, with the Netherlands serving as Europe’s gateway for the floriculture industry.
