Kazakhstan begins FAA safety audit to open direct U.S. flightsA U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) has begun in Kazakhstan and will run through Sept. 25, the Transport Ministry's press service said.The review is part of Kazakhstan's push to open direct flights to the United States and will assess whether the country's state safety oversight system meets applicable ICAO standards and recommended practices.FAA experts will examine the country's aviation legislation, regulatory framework and its ability to carry out state oversight of flight safety.On Sept. 24, the FAA team will visit Air Astana in Astana, which has applied to the U.S. Transport Ministry for commercial operations.After the assessment, the FAA will hold a final briefing with Kazakhstan's aviation administration and later provide a written report.An initial IASA technical review was conducted in Kazakhstan in August 2024.
