Kazakh president discusses Almaty SkyHub project with YTO Express, PinduoduoPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has discussed the Almaty SkyHub transport and logistics hub project with Zhou Jian, executive director of Chinese logistics company YTO Express, and Wen Peichen, head of international business at marketplace Pinduoduo, the presidential press service said Friday."The talks focused in particular on the Almaty SkyHub transport and logistics hub, designed to speed up goods processing for shipments to the EU, EAEU and Central Asia," the press service said.The project is expected to give a boost to the transport and logistics sector in Kazakhstan's southern region.The talks also noted significant potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in logistics and e-commerce, including under the Belt and Road Initiative.Tokayev said Kazakhstan plans to raise the share of e-commerce to 20% of total trade by 2030. He believes the goal can be achieved ahead of schedule with joint efforts from Chinese partners.The head of state also praised the operation of Qazpost-YTO joint venture, which makes extensive use of smart IT solutions and logistics automation. The venture, established by YTO Express and Kazpost, has delivered 12.5 million parcels to date.Wen Peichen announced the launch of a joint project with Pinduoduo in Kazakhstan in October.The Almaty SkyHub industrial and logistics hub is being implemented in the Almaty region with the participation of China's YTO Express and Kazpost, Kazakhstan’s national postal service. In June 2025, the Almaty regional administration and YTO Express signed a memorandum to build the hub in the Ili district with declared investment of $100 million. The project is focused on developing e-commerce and transit traffic between China, Central Asia, the EAEU and Europe. (ICE ALMATY)
