ENVIRONMENT MINISTER: JORDAN MOVES TO DEVELOP CLIMATE PROJECTS WITH SYRIA, IRAQ,
Jordan is preparing an agenda for the upcoming COP31 climate summit that goes beyond participation in negotiations, with a focus on major projects, funding opportunities and regional partnerships. The aim is to shift Jordan’s official presence from simply presenting national commitments to actively pursuing tangible climate and financial gains. Environment Minister Dr. Ayman Suleiman told Al-Ghad in exclusive remarks that the coming period will see efforts to strengthen Jordan’s regional role in environmental and climate action. This will involve forging partnerships with neighboring countries and developing joint projects capable of unlocking greater access to climate finance. Suleiman said preparations for COP31—scheduled to be held in Türkiye this November—are focused on formulating a Jordanian position that highlights the Kingdom’s climate achievements while laying the groundwork for future progress. The agenda is expected to place greater emphasis on regional cooperation, including potential joint initiatives with Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine, as Jordan seeks to translate its climate priorities into projects with measurable environmental and economic benefits.
