PRESIDENT PRABOWO LAUNCHES COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGY TO REVITALIZE INDONESIA'S $12B Textile Sector
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered a comprehensive overhaul of Indonesia's textile and textile product sector to safeguard four million jobs and protect 12 billion USD in annual export revenue. Facing severe pressure from cheap offshore dumping and factory insolvencies, the government is deploying sovereign investment fund BPI Danantara to establish a new, fully integrated state-owned enterprise in a single consolidated hub to support and partner with local mills. Concurrently, state-linked commercial lenders are intervening in debt restructuring for viable operators, while customs authorities are stepping up enforcement against illegal secondhand clothing and dumped garments. The administration is also revising technical import regulations to simplify raw material access for domestic manufacturers. To secure long-term market expansion, Indonesia is accelerating the completion and ratification of the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). Slated for parliamentary ratification in late 2026 and full implementation in early 2027, the pact aims to eliminate European import duties, placing Indonesian garment exporters on equal footing with regional competitors like Vietnam and Bangladesh. High-level EU officials are expected to visit Jakarta between late October and early November 2026 to formalize the landmark agreement. This dual approach combines domestic market protection and supply chain integration with enhanced international market access to revitalize Southeast Asia's historic garment manufacturing base.Source: https://investortrust.id/market/117139/prabowo-mobilizes-state-capital-and-tariff-shield-to-rescue-indonesias-12b-textile-pillar?page=english-edition (ICE GIACARTA)
