INDONESIA'S MANUFACTURING PMI RETURNS TO EXPANSION IN SEPTEMBER

Indonesia’s manufacturing sector returned to growth in September 2026, with the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) rising to 52.4 from 49.8 in August, moving back into expansion territory. The improvement was driven by stronger new orders, higher production, growing export demand, increased project inflows, and stronger purchasing power. New export orders recorded their fastest growth since May 2022, while rising employment, purchasing activity, and inventories reflected improving business confidence. The recovery was also supported by increased imports of capital goods and raw materials, indicating stronger industrial activity. From January to August 2026, manufacturing exports grew 6.62%, with iron and steel, palm oil products, and coal among the leading contributors to Indonesia’s US$7.25 billion trade surplus. Despite the positive momentum, the government noted that food inflation remains a challenge, as September inflation reached 3.28% year-on-year, while volatile food prices rose 5.03%, affected by weather-related disruptions and supply constraints.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2788468/indonesias-manufacturing-pmi-returns-to-expansion-in-september (ICE GIACARTA)
