HIPMI URGES STATE CONSTRUCTION CONSOLIDATION TO SUPPORT PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS and Industrial Growth
The Central Governing Board of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) has expressed full support for the government and Danantara's ongoing restructuring and consolidation of seven state-owned construction enterprises (BUMN Karya), including Waskita Karya, Wijaya Karya, and Adhi Karya. HIPMI Secretary-General Anthony Leong emphasized that this restructuring should serve as a momentum to rebuild a healthier, more transparent, and professional national construction ecosystem rather than merely combining companies or cutting debt. Crucially, HIPMI highlighted the need to safeguard project continuity and ensure timely payments to local vendors, subcontractors, and small suppliers, whose operational cash flows and employee livelihoods are severely affected by payment delays. Furthermore, HIPMI advocated for a clearer division of roles where consolidated BUMNs focus on large-scale, complex strategic infrastructure, while opening greater participation opportunities for private national and regional contractors as main partners or key supply chain members. Anthony stressed that BUMNs must act as locomotives that pull private enterprises along rather than crowding out local business spaces. Ultimately, HIPMI asserts that the success of the BUMN Karya consolidation should be measured by increased private sector engagement, local job creation, timely vendor settlements, and enhanced industry competitiveness.
