UKRAINE’S POWER EXPORTS EXCEED IMPORTS SIXFOLD IN SEPTEMBER

Ukraine remained a net electricity exporter for a third consecutive month in September, with exports reaching 473,700 MWh, more than six times imports, according to Energy Map.Exports rose 24.4% from August to their highest monthly level since September 2023. Imports fell 58.6% to 76,100 MWh, the lowest since November 2023. Outbound deliveries exceeded purchases by approximately 520%, with net exports totaling 397,600 MWh.Ukraine exported electricity every day, and outbound volumes exceeded imports on each day of the month. Weather conditions remained the main driver of the trend.Hungary supplied 38,800 MWh, or 50.9% of Ukraine’s imports, followed by Poland with 17,000 MWh (22.4%), Romania with 14,800 MWh (19.4%), Slovakia with 5,400 MWh (7.1%) and Moldova with 100 MWh (0.2%).Imports fell by 37–87% across all supply routes compared with August. A year earlier, September imports totaled 139,700 MWh, 83.5% higher than this September.Hungary was also the largest destination for Ukrainian electricity, taking 232,500 MWh, or 49.1% of exports. Moldova received 152,500 MWh (32.2%), Romania 81,600 MWh (17.2%), Slovakia 5,300 MWh (1.1%) and Poland 1,800 MWh (0.4%).Exports to Romania, Hungary and Moldova increased by 14–36% from August. Deliveries to Poland fell 39%, while those to Slovakia dropped 75%.Despite the monthly increase, total exports were 25.4% below the 635,100 MWh recorded in September last year. The surplus gave Ukraine a stronger position in cross-border electricity trade during September. However, because weather drove the balance, the figures alone do not show how much power will be available for export as winter demand rises.https://ubn.news/ukraines-power-exports-exceed-imports-sixfold-in-september/ (ICE KIEV)
