PT PUPUK INDONESIA DIVERSIFIES RAW MATERIAL IMPORTS TO MITIGATE GLOBAL Geopolitical Risks
PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) is actively expanding its import sources for essential fertilizer raw materials, specifically phosphate and potassium, to reduce reliance on single-country suppliers amid growing global geopolitical instability. Speaking at the BIG Downstream Insights 2026 event in Jakarta, Corporate Communication VP Cindy Systiarani highlighted that because Indonesia lacks domestic reserves for these two crucial components, the country relies entirely on imports. To shield supply chains from disruptions—such as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict—the company has diversified its procurement strategy to include alternative suppliers in Algeria, Morocco, Cambodia, and Laos, ensuring continuous fertilizer production. While raw material sourcing for phosphate and potassium remains vulnerable to external shocks, Pupuk Indonesia confirmed that its supply of natural gas for urea production remains fully secure. With strong government backing and guaranteed domestic gas supplies, the company's core urea manufacturing operations are well-insulated from broader international trade volatility, including disruptions in key maritime transit zones like the Strait of Hormuz. Consequently, the enterprise's current risk mitigation strategy focuses primarily on securing international partnerships for non-domestic raw materials to maintain national agricultural stability.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20261006/257/2010264/imbas-perang-pupuk-indonesia-cari-negara-alternatif-pasokan-bahan-baku (ICE GIACARTA)
