INDONESIA ENACTS REGULATION 39 OF 2026 TO PROTECT DOMESTIC INDUSTRIES FROM Unfair Trade and Import Surges
The Indonesian government issued Government Regulation Number 39 of 2026 on Safeguard Actions, Anti Dumping Actions, and Countervailing Actions (PP TPTATI) on September 22, 2026. Trade Minister Budi Santoso highlighted that this landmark regulation strengthens protections for domestic industries against unfair trade practices and damaging import spikes. A key highlight of the new decree is the introduction of specific anti circumvention measures designed to counter trade evasion tactics such as altered shipping routes, changed countries of origin, and modified production patterns.Updating the previous framework set under Regulation 34 of 2011, the revised decree refines bilateral and regional safeguards, trade measures in facilitated zones, and investigation mechanisms. The legislation also aligns national trade remedies with World Trade Organization (WTO) commitments. Drafted over nearly a decade of discussions, this updated legal framework aims to enhance interministerial coordination, provide legal certainty, and ensure a fairer competitive environment for national businesses facing global trade dynamics.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5787433/pp-tptati-perkuat-perlindungan-industri-dari-praktik-dagang-tidak-adil (ICE GIACARTA)
