GOVERNMENT MONITORS 0% PLASTIC IMPORT DUTY INCENTIVE TO ENSURE TARGETING Downstream Industry Needs

The Indonesian government is actively supervising the implementation of a zero-percent Most Favoured Nation (MFN) import duty incentive for Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) plastic raw materials, issued under Ministry of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 68 of 2026. The six-month policy aims to protect domestic industries from global market dynamics and sharp international price increases—which saw Polypropylene rise by 42.79% and Polyethylene by 27.87% year-on-year. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that maintaining this incentive is crucial to helping national manufacturers control production costs and maintain operational continuity. However, early feedback from business operators indicates that the items currently benefiting from the zero-percent tariff are mostly liquid-form plastic raw materials, whereas downstream sectors (including packaging, household goods, agriculture, and MSMEs) primarily require plastic in pellet form. In response to these stakeholder inputs, the government is conducting a comprehensive evaluation to review the policy's effectiveness, address contextual gaps, and ensure that fiscal facilities precisely target and support the operational needs of downstream user industries.Source: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/5787125/pemerintah-kawal-penerapan-insentif-bea-masuk-plastik-nol-persen (ICE GIACARTA)
