INDONESIA & TIMOR-LESTE SEAL INVESTMENT TREATY TO EXPAND ECONOMIC TIES
Indonesia and Timor-Leste have signed a bilateral investment treaty (BIT) aimed at strengthening economic relations and promoting cross-border investment. The agreement was signed in Jakarta by Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Indonesia’s Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, and Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Timor-Leste’s Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. According to Rosan, the treaty provides a legal and institutional framework to deepen economic integration by aligning policies, simplifying regulations, and accelerating investment flows between the two countries. The treaty is expected to attract investment in sectors including downstream natural resource processing, manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, logistics, real estate, and digital technology. Around 120 Indonesian private companies already operate in Timor-Leste, alongside several Indonesian state-owned enterprises involved in banking, telecommunications, energy, and infrastructure projects. Both governments also agreed to enhance investment information sharing and business-to-business partnerships. The BIT is built on three key pillars: investment promotion, efficient investment facilitation, and investment protection, providing greater legal certainty and fair treatment for investors while supporting broader bilateral economic cooperation.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/435829/indonesia-timor-leste-seal-investment-treaty-to-expand-economic-ties?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=desktop&utm_campaign=top_news (ICE GIACARTA)
