BANGLADESH, ITALY DISCUSS MOU TO STRENGTHEN TOURISM COOPERATION

DHAKA, Oct 14, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh and Italy discussed signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance tourism cooperation during a meeting between Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat. The proposed MoU aims to boost tourism exchanges and improve attractions, transport links, and visitor facilities. The growing number of Italian tourists visiting Bangladesh was a key topic, alongside the potential of the new Cox’s Bazar Airport to enhance accessibility to tourist destinations. They also talked about creating a special “red zone” for foreign tourists to ensure safety and comfort. In addition to tourism, they explored expanding air connectivity and attracting Italian investment in Bangladesh’s aviation sector, including plans for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities. The minister noted that increasing flights on the Dhaka–Rome route would be considered after Biman Bangladesh Airlines adds new aircraft to its fleet. Currently, Biman operates six weekly flights between Bangladesh and Italy. Both sides expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations in aviation and tourism. (ICE NEW DELHI)
