INDONESIA PROMOTES KURA KURA BALI SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE AS AI AND SEMICONDUCTOR Hub
The Indonesian government is positioning the Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone as a strategic center for artificial intelligence research and semiconductor development through expanded collaboration with China. Acting Secretary General of the National SEZ Council Ali Murtopo Simbolon explained that the zone offers a stable setting for academic growth and industrial cooperation amid rising global competition. A key driver of this tech ecosystem is the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center, which has established foundational research programs in physics and neuroscience as well as a specialized semiconductor forum with Tsinghua University in Beijing. Future projects in the zone focus on advancing digital research, practical artificial intelligence applications, and digital economy growth supported by Chinese enterprises, which make up 97 of the 481 total business tenants across Indonesian special economic zones.Nationwide, Indonesia oversees 25 economic zones that have generated over 20 billion US dollars in total investment and created more than 283,000 jobs. For its part, the Kura Kura Bali zone has reached 1.8 trillion rupiahs in realized investment by the middle of 2026, creating over 2,000 jobs and attracting more than 131,000 visitors. To deepen industrial synergy, Indonesia and China are expanding collaboration through the Two Countries Twin Parks framework, combining local natural resources with Chinese capital and technical capabilities. Government officials emphasize that future cooperation will prioritize technology transfer, shared research, talent training, and national industrial capacity building rather than financial investment alone.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/435010/indonesia-positions-bali-sez-as-ai-and-semiconductor-hub (ICE GIACARTA)
