WORLD BANK- PH URBANIZATION SLOWER AMONG ASEAN PEERS
WHILE the Philippines has experienced economic growth and an increase in its officially measured urban population, the World Bank said in a report that the country had not sufficiently concentrated its population and economic activity in dense urban centers that can support more productive businesses and a wider range of employment opportunities. “The Philippines has not urbanized much for decades and its correlation to economic growth is not so strong over time,” the World Bank said. It added that the limited increase in the share of the population living in cities suggested that the country was not densifying enough to shift its economic structure toward a city-led growth model. https://www.manilatimes.net/2026/10/28/business/top-business/world-bank-ph-urbanization-slower-among-asean-peers/2455392 (ICE SINGAPORE)
