IMF PROJECTS 6.6% ECONOMIC REBOUND FOR MENAP REGION IN 2027
The Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan (MENAP) region is projected to experience a 6.6% economic recovery in 2027 following a 1.3% contraction in 2026 caused by war-related disruptions to energy production, shipping, trade, and business confidence. According to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) latest Regional Economic Outlook, the impact has diverged across the region: oil exporters suffered more direct output and energy infrastructure disruptions (though higher oil prices partially cushioned fiscal balances), whereas oil importers showed greater resilience due to steady domestic demand, remittances, and tourism. While the IMF’s baseline forecast relies on geopolitical tensions easing in early 2027 to allow regional trade to normalize, it warns of high uncertainty tied to potential future energy market disruptions, tighter global financial conditions, and persistent geopolitical risks, urging regional policymakers to prioritize fiscal discipline, price stability, and structural reforms.
