UK-UAE BILATERAL TRADE PROJECTIONS AND ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP GOALS

Bilateral trade between the UK and UAE is on track to reach £30 billion ($39.6 billion) by 2030, supported by a strong commercial rebound following recent regional disruptions and expanding British investment in sectors like digital finance, life sciences, and clean energy. Lord Davies of Abersoch, UK Co-Chair of the UAE-UK Business Council, emphasized that current trade exceeds £25 billion ($33 billion) with over 10,000 active British companies operating in Dubai alone. To build on the upcoming UK-GCC Free Trade Agreement—which removes key tariffs—Lord Davies advocate for a dedicated bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This proposed agreement would target non-tariff barriers and foster strategic collaboration in technology-rich industries, specifically focusing on artificial intelligence, cross-border data management, digital assets, and sustainable infrastructure, while complementing the £30 billion-plus UAE-UK Sovereign Investment Partnership.
