Multinationals now use China for R&D, speed and global scale, not just cost. According to China Ministry of Commerce, high-tech FDI hit 228.53 billion yuan ($34.26 billion) in Jan-Sep 2026, up 33.8% YoY and 41.6% of total FDI (+11.9 points); R&D and design services FDI rose 59.2% and tech commercialization 76.8%.
