KAZAKHSTAN-ZHANAOZEN-GAS/PLANT-EQUIPMENT

First batch of equipment for new gas plant in Zhanaozen arrives in Kazakhstan from ChinaThe first batch of China-made equipment for a new gas processing plant in Zhanaozen, western Kazakhstan, has been delivered by sea to the Yersai terminal at the Kuryk port on the Caspian Sea, the press service of national oil and gas company KazMunayGas said. The delivered equipment includes furnaces, heat exchangers, tanks and electric heaters.KazMunayGas said shipping began on August 16 this year. Three more vessels carrying cargo are now on their way to Kazakhstan, and further deliveries will be made in stages under the project schedule."Manufacturing of the main process units and assembly of modules continues at production sites in China. Of 240 long-lead equipment items, 138 are finished and another 102 are under way, bringing overall manufacturing progress to 61.6%," the national company said.In July 2026, Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov demanded that contractors speed up the construction of the Zhanaozen gas processing plant. "The contract allows 36 months for construction, 29 of which have already passed. Yet the project is only about 40% complete — meaning 81% of the time is gone, but work is far behind schedule," the minister said. The current gas plant in Zhanaozen, built in 1973 and operated by KazGPZ LLP, is outdated and worn. Plans for a new plant to supply gas to local residents and industrial users had targeted completion in 2022-2024.Construction began in November 2023, with full completion of two startup complexes planned for 2027.Once operational, the plant will process 900 million cubic meters of gas per year, producing 743 million cubic meters of commercial gas, 217,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas and 122,000 tonnes of pentane-hexane fraction annually.
